Anna Svard previously served as Assistant Director of Operations for Rheumatology at Valo Hospital and worked in research. Since 2020, she has been one of the six chief doctors in the Dalarna region. She is now moving forward and becoming the head of the unit.

What does your new role involve?

– I will continue in my role as Chief Medical Officer, as a director leading and distributing work in our unit and working as a medical advisor to the Regional Director and Healthcare Management Group in the Dalarna Region.

Why do you think you are getting this position?

– I think this is a combination of my long clinical experience as a rheumatologist and my background as a researcher, as well as the fact that I worked in the main medical department and have a good vision of tasks.

What will you bring to the role?

– I hope that we, as chief medical officers, can spend more of our time and energy supporting the business in terms of preventive work. Detect risks and take measures even before something serious happens.

Do you see any challenges?

– Perhaps the main challenge is the compressed situation in the field of healthcare in general, both in the Dalarna region and at the national level. There are scarce resources. The budget doesn't quite add up. We are understaffed in many areas. This makes it difficult for companies to devote people and time to investigating anomalies and working on patient safety in an organized manner. It takes time, but it pays off in the long run.

What are you most looking forward to?

-It's always fun to learn new things. Then I'm also looking forward to participating and guiding the direction in which we work. This is only with more preventative work. And that we're really trying to think about how we as chief medical officer can do the most good for the company and the patients.
