They've scared wild pigs away from the woods—and now Flox Robotics' drones will chase Canada geese off beaches

Anyone who has tried to take a walk or have a simple coffee in any large grassy area has encountered the problem: Canada goose poop in abundance.

Additionally, large birds can be somewhat annoying (at least to those of us who are afraid of birds) because they often strut around without shame.

But the torment may soon end, at least. Sarah Nozkova And Flox Robotics gets what they want.

Specifically, they have developed an autonomous drone system that can keep birds away from beaches. Flox robotics is part of a KTH project where they work on AI and autonomous drones. The company was also previously part of the Norrsken accelerator. In the past, they have mainly helped forest owners drive away wild boars, but now it’s time for Canada geese.

On Thursday morning, they demonstrated their invention at Strabadet in Stockholm, and the systems are scheduled to be installed next summer.

“We are redefining wildlife management in an urban environment,” says Sarah Nozkova.

The idea is that the drone takes off, like a herding dog, driving geese away from human-populated beaches to more suitable environments.

“There is a huge potential to move from manual management by drone pilots to an automated solution,” he says. Karen Ekdahl Westberg, Head of Innovation at the City of Stockholm.

“In the long run, this will make the service more viable for large-scale purchases and more cost-effective.”

Last year, Flox Robotics had a turnover of SEK 0.8 million and made no profit.
