On July 7, the UK's new foreign secretary, David Lammy, visited Stockholm for a meeting with foreign minister Tobias Billström. Sweden was one of the first countries the British Foreign Secretary chose to visit.
– Great Britain is one of Sweden's most important partners. I am very pleased to be able to welcome Foreign Minister Lamy to Stockholm. The inaugural visit to Sweden underlines our very close relationship and the importance of connecting Britain with Northern Europe, says Foreign Secretary Tobias Billström.
At the meeting, the ministers discussed current issues in close bilateral relations, cooperation in defense and security policy, the upcoming NATO summit in Washington and support to Ukraine. In 2023, Sweden and Great Britain entered into a bilateral strategic partnership, covering defense and security policy, trade, research and innovation, as well as energy and climate.
– Sweden and Great Britain cooperate closely, inter alia, on security and defense policies, bilaterally and in NATO, and support Ukraine. After my conversation with Foreign Minister Lammy, I am convinced that the conditions are very good for continuing to deepen and develop cooperation with Great Britain, says Tobias Billström.
David Lammy was sworn in as the United Kingdom's Foreign Secretary on Friday 5 July 2024.
