A 450-room hotel, 950 holiday apartments, 36 golf villas and 500 houses for sale.

These were some of the renovations that former US President Donald Trump promised to make at the Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen.

Investments costing approximately SEK 13.5 billion.

“He never meant to do that.”

But the promises never materialized, and now project director Neil Hobday is harshly criticizing Trump.

-I feel cheated and ashamed because Scotland and I did this. I don't think he would have built the whole thing even if he had arranged the money. He wanted the golf course and nothing more, Hobday says on BBC's Trumped programme, according to The Times.

Hobday continues:

– He was willing to fight the environmental battle and create the illusion that this was a $13.5 billion project that Scotland really needed. But I think he had neither the money nor the intention to complete it. We all went for it. He never intended to do that.

Overcomes criticism

In a BBC podcast, Trump International Scotland refutes these accusations and says the company has invested “several billion kroner” and “delivered on its promise to build one of the best modern links courses ever”.

In 2006, Trump announced plans to transform the Minnie, north of Aberdeen, into one of the world's leading golf resorts.

In 2012, he opened Trump International Golf Links. According to the Trump Organization, about 1.3 billion Swedish krona was spent on the resort.
