The Nissan Juke and Qashqai will become electric cars and will be built in the UK with a new leaf – all about electric cars

Nissan is now accelerating its investments in electric cars, with big investments coming in the UK where three new models will be built. The venture at the EV36Zero facility in Sunderland will consist of three Gigafactories and a total investment of £3 billion.

At these facilities, Nissan will invest in vehicle and battery manufacturing. Already today, Nissan manufactures the Leaf electric car in Sunderland alongside the Qashqai and Juke. The three new electric cars will replace the Nissan Leaf, Juke and Qashqai and take inspiration from the three concepts that Nissan has already shown.

Nissan showed the first concept in 2021. That’s when we got our first look at the Nissan Chill-Out Concept, the model unofficially dubbed the Leaf’s replacement.

At the Japan Motor Show earlier this fall, Nissan announced four additional concepts, two of which are now set to become reality at the UK plant.

Hyper urban

The Nissan Hyper Urban Concept is positioned as an electric crossover. Earlier, Nissan described the concept as a model suitable for car owners in cities and suburban areas.

The third model is the Nissan Hyperpunk Concept, which showcases a more compact crossover. The model will be a clear standout, with what Nissan describes as an “exterior aesthetic”. This is a model that appeals to creative people, Nissan said during the concept launch.

Nissan will share more information about the three models, including names, specifications and release dates, at a later date.
