Novak Djokovic wins the US Open

By winning 24 titles, he now equals the record held by Australian Margaret Court in the Grand Slam tournaments, and surpasses two and four titles respectively over his main rivals Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, the latter of whom retired last year.

The encounter between Djokovic and Medvedev on Arthur Ashe Stadium was strongly characterized by the safety of the ball by both players, and the crowd in Queens, New York was able to witness a number of long, even ball duels.

But in the end, Djokovic was the stronger and the Serbian player showed evidence of being the one who holds many of the most important records in tennis.

– It’s hard to describe. I am truly living my childhood dream of being able to compete at the highest level in this sport. He said in an interview with Al-Nasr: I never thought that I would stand here to discuss 24 major championships.

Djokovic won the first set 6-3. It was more even in the second set as Djokovic had to save a set point. But when it came time for the tie-break, the Serbian once again showed why he is so difficult to beat and won the set by a narrow margin.

In the third and final set, the crowd enjoyed the drama when Djokovic broke Medvedev’s serve and took a 3-1 lead. However, the 27-year-old world number three was able to break back immediately, but was broken again in his next service game.

Fourth US Open title

After that, Djokovic had no major problems and was able to play his way relatively easily to his 24th Grand Slam title – which means he has now surpassed Serena Williams – and the fourth US Open title of his career.

The defeat was, of course, a disappointment for Medvedev, but if there was any bitterness inside him, he made sure to hide it well. Instead, he took the opportunity to express his admiration for his counterpart.

– When we first played, my ranking was probably around 500 in the world. And he was very nice to me. It wasn’t that he did anything special, but he treated me like a normal person. And he still does. “Nothing has changed and I think that’s one of the best things you can say about another person,” Medvedev said after the loss.
