According to researchers at the Swedish Agricultural University, levels of the Covid-19 virus in wastewater are the highest they have been measured in almost a year in most parts of the country.

No rise in influenza virus

In week 51 of last year, for example, 37 new patients in intensive care were confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus, according to Public Health Authority statistics.

The numbers have doubled in several places in the country according to the latest measurements, and they are also increasing in major cities such as Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.

There are exceptions too. In Västerås and Jönköping, for example, measurements have shown no increase in Covid infections, according to Dagens Nyheter.

Researchers are also measuring infection rates of influenza viruses, but there has been no increase yet, which suggests the season has not yet begun.
