On the occasion of the powerful hurricane that struck the Mexican coastal resort city of Acapulco, causing at least 30 casualties and great destruction, Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin presents the participation of Pope Francis in a telegram of condolence to Archbishop and Metropolitan of Acapulco Leopoldo Gonzalez Gonzalez.
The Pope’s prayer for the victims
The Pope prays fervently for the eternal repose of the dead and for the Lord’s repose for those suffering from the devastating impact of the hurricane. He prays for the Christian community with fervent love to help rebuild the affected areas. The telegram also expresses the Pope’s deep involvement with the families of the victims, his fatherly care, and his spiritual closeness to the wounded and victims.
Hurricane Otis made landfall as a Category 5 hurricane — the strongest on the Saffir-Simpson scale — between Wednesday, October 25 and Thursday, October 26. It is the worst tropical cyclone to hit the coast of Mexico. About thirty people died, and many more are missing. Buildings and infrastructure were severely damaged.
