A woman has been missing for a week – stuck in the mud in a US national park

The 31-year-old woman disappeared at noon on June 26 from her home in South Boston in the United States. According to the authorities, she used to go out to visit nearby natural areas, but concerns were raised when she did not appear again, according to reports The New York Times.

In the days that followed, a massive search effort was launched for the woman. The police engaged several agencies and used everything from police dogs and helicopters to try to locate the woman.

In social media posts, they also began asking for the public’s help in keeping tabs on her. They indicated in her post that she did not bring her mobile phone with her and likely did not have any money. Therefore, they worried that she might be without food and water for several days.

“If you live near water, check any canoes or rafts you might have, and if you have an outbuilding, shed, under your front porch, anywhere you might take shelter,” Police Chief Donna McNamara said during a news conference Thursday. June 29, according to Boston 25 News.

Found stuck in the mud in a swamp

Only on July 3, a full week after the woman’s disappearance, will a breakthrough come.

Two hikers who were in Borderland State Park south of Boston could hear someone calling for help and called the authorities.

When the police arrived at the scene, they found the woman stuck in the mud in a swamp-like area.

“Three officers had to wade 15 meters from the beach, through dense forest and swamp, to reach the woman,” police said in a statement, according to The New York Times.

They now believe that she was stuck in the mud for at least three days, without being able to free her. But the authorities managed to help her out of the mud and carried her to the beach.

The woman was alert and conscious when she was found and taken to hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. It is still not clear how and why she got stuck in the mud.

“The public has never given up hope that she will be found safely,” the police said in a statement.
