Summer holidays are associated with swimming for hours, jumping on trampolines, football on the lawn and exploring the forest. But not for everyone. If fantasy runs wild like this after a few weeks off, Skogsmulle’s challenges or other tips from Friluftsfrämjandet can provide the inspiration and motivation to get off the screen and set in motion.

Summer holidays are a good opportunity for kids and adults alike to discover new challenges that can inspire life outdoors. Perhaps an interest in the outdoors is awakened, making you want to keep staying outside even in winter when we’re more sedentary, says Ari Holtqvist, hiking leader and director of hiking operations at Friluftsfrämjandet.

While only 14% of girls and 24% of boys among 11-year-olds reach the recommendation for one hour of vigorous physical activity per day, it’s important to create good habits early on. Exploring nature is a great opportunity that gives joy in motion and is good for health in general.

You don’t have to be forward at all! Skogsmulle’s challenges, for example, include drawing a card daily and getting a task, it could be balancing on a rock or finding a stick as long as you like. The nature of parkour, which involves finding different obstacles in nature to deal with, is simple and exciting, says Ari Hultqvist.
