More positive towards NATO in a new survey

Compared to the May survey, the share of voters who reported being very positive has increased. The percentage of those who answered that they did not know or did not want to answer the question decreased at the same time. These changes are statistically guaranteed, says Leonora Odhammar, a statistician at Statistics Sweden.

In connection with the May partisan sympathy poll, a question about attitude to NATO was asked for the first time.

In the second poll in November, 28.9 percent said they were very positive about Sweden’s NATO membership. In May, 22.6% of voters answered that they had a very positive attitude towards NATO. Men tend to be more positive about NATO membership than women.

The people surveyed were asked if they were completely or very positively/negatively inclined to Swedish membership in NATO. The question does not include yes or no membership. The question is not asked regarding one’s sympathy in general. This is the second time that the question of attitude to NATO has been included in the party sympathy survey conducted by SCB.

Facts: Partisan Sympathy Survey

The question about attitude to NATO is part of the Party Sympathy Survey – Partisan Sympathy November 2022. The Party Sympathy Survey shows the demographic groups in which political parties have the strongest support. The poll also indicates the sympathy of voters with the European Union and Europe.

Statistics Sweden conducts the Partisan Sympathy Survey (PSU) twice every year, in May and November. The November PSU was conducted from October 27 to November 24.
