On Tuesday, Sweden, Finland and Turkey took part in a meeting where the ongoing NATO operation was discussed. This was stated by Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström, who is currently in Bucharest for the ongoing NATO meeting.
He believes the meeting was a good opportunity to check what the situation looks like in terms of fulfilling the parts of the agreement Sweden, Finland and Turkey signed in Madrid this summer that will be Turkey’s basis for approving the requests. .
– Progress is being made and this was confirmed by the three parties who took part in yesterday’s talks, says Billström at Morgonstudion.
“very practical”
Bellström will soon travel to Turkey on the same subject.
– Further discussions are waiting there with my colleague, the Turkish Foreign Minister. He also says I am looking forward to having the opportunity to make reconciliations.
According to Billström, large portions of the work is done to fulfill parts of the agreement at the authority level and he described the work as “fairly hands-on”.
The foreign minister believes that it is not possible to say when Turkey will be able to agree to Sweden’s request for NATO – a breakthrough in Bucharest was not expected.
It is a mistake to stick to a specific time frame. But the talks yesterday showed progress, and as the talks move forward we can probably eventually reach a point where the (Turkish) parliament can ratify it.”
