The five-person delegation was led by Democratic Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts.
According to the American Institute in Taiwan, the delegation is visiting between Sunday and Monday as part of an Asian trip. They will meet with the country’s top leaders to discuss, among other things, the relationship between the United States and Taiwan, regional security and trade.
China threatens military power
China does not accept that other countries have relations with both Beijing and the Taiwanese government in Taipei.
And the Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said earlier that China used the visit of US President Nancy Pelosi as an excuse to prepare for a possible invasion of the island of Taiwan.
China has repeatedly threatened to use military force to control Taiwan. Last week, China began its largest-ever maneuvers near Taiwan, the day after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.
