Anna Hallberg participates in a ministerial meeting in Luxembourg

EU trade ministers meet in Luxembourg to discuss the union’s trade relations with the United States and China, and to prepare for the 12th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (MC12).

Today, June 3, Minister of Foreign Trade Anna Hallberg will participate in the meeting of the Council of the European Union on foreign trade issues, FAC (Trade), which this time will take place in Luxembourg. The agenda includes discussions on the EU’s trade policy relations with the United States and China.

Sweden is pushing for the further development and deepening of trade relations between the European Union and the United States.

It is important that we constantly discuss the trade relationship between the European Union and the United States. A strong transatlantic trade relationship is critical to the Swedish economy, prosperity, and security. The newly created Trade and Technology Council (TTC) has in a short time become an important platform for deepening and institutionalizing our cooperation – Sweden is actively participating in discussions to further develop this cooperation coordination, says Foreign Minister Anna Hallberg.

The trade ministers will also prepare for the MC12 WTO Twelfth Ministerial Conference.

– Negotiation mode before MC12 is complicated. The Russian invasion of Ukraine and the previous epidemic of the virus exacerbated the conditions for progress in the ongoing negotiations. After all, there is a broad consensus within the European Union to advocate for a strong rules-based trading system. It is hoped that the MC12 will be a fresh start in the work of WTO reform, says Anna Hallberg.
