Today there are 50 million air conditioners in Indian homes, and by 2050 the number will be just over a billion.

At DN Documentary Studio Mia Holmgren told DN reporter how higher temperatures lead to increased air conditioning use — which increases carbon dioxide emissions and leads to higher temperatures. Evolution will continue. The number of really hot days, when there is a need to use air conditioners, is expected to increase exponentially.

“For Bombay residents, tropical storms and major floods are an obvious consequence of a warmer climate,” said Jayanta Sarkar, director of the Bombay Meteorological Institute.
