When AMD introduced the Ryzen Threadripper processor shortly after introducing the first generation Ryzen, they took the world to bed. After making 8 cores to the new normal, they not only increased the control to 11 but 16. The following year, there was another doubling to 32 cores and a little later with the Ryzen Threadripper 3000 series, AMD developed the 64-core heavy artillery.
A new generation on the web has appeared in rounds and now it’s all confirmed by AMD SATA-IO, the organization that certifies products for compliance with the SATA standard. Usually, the SATA-IO menus are not as straightforward as here, where the name of the series of products is printed in plain language – Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5000WX.
In addition to the series name, there is also a so-called model number, Ryzen Threadripper Pro 59x5WX, where the letter “x” is place holder For numbers that differentiate between different models. For the new series, previous rumors talk about a total of five models with 64, 32, 24, 16 and 12 cores, called Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5995WX, Pro 5975WX, Pro 5965WX, Pro 5955WX, and Pro 5945WX respectively. Everyone has support for Multiple threads at once (SMT), which gives twice the number of wires relative to the number of cores.
The fact that AMD releases two models with only 12 and 16 cores, which can already be found in the regular Ryzen 5000 series for consumers, has its explanation in the I / O connections. The AMD Ryzen 5000 processor supports two channels of DDR4 memory and 20 PCI Express 4.0 directly from the processor, with the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5000WX providing eight full channels of DDR4 memory and 128 PCI Express 4.0. Thus, models with significantly fewer cores than other models are for users who require high memory bandwidth and several PCI Express channels, rather than the maximum computing power of the processor.
With the previous generation Ryzen Threadripper 3000, AMD first introduced models geared toward enthusiasts, to follow later with WX variants of workstations. Here, AMD by all accounts seems to start with workstations only. However, there will be variants for enthusiasts that are far from obvious, on the contrary, the rumor mill is grinding information that such a series is completely absent.
It is believed that AMD may choose to skip the Ryzen Threadripper 5000 series with Zen 3 architecture due to the fact that it will be too late and too soon for the next Zen 4, which sees the light of day in the second half of 2022. AMD had originally intended to launch the series at a later date. Earlier in the year, but due to the current shortfall in electrical circuits, he delayed it in installments and perhaps now to a point where the product is considered to have come out too late.
It is currently unknown when AMD will introduce the Ryzen Threadripper Pro 5000WX series. There is a possible occasion during CES 2022, when AMD will hold a press conference on January 4.
