An 11-year-old girl from Great Britain was shot dead in the family garden in Saint-Herbot, northwest France, last Saturday.
The girl’s next-door neighbor, a 71-year-old man from the Netherlands, had been feuding with his neighbor for two years over the land between the two houses. Among other things, the 71-year-old was allegedly disturbed by all the noise coming from the family’s garden, and because the family cut down trees that had previously provided shade in his garden.
When the girl’s family went out to the garden on Saturday, a neighbor allegedly opened fire on the family. According to CNN, multiple shots were fired and an 11-year-old girl, her mother and her father were both injured in the shooting. The 8-year-old sister survived the shooting.
Father is seriously injured
The 8-year-old boy reportedly ran to another neighbor and yelled that his sister was dead, after which police and an ambulance were called.
Once at the hospital, an 11-year-old boy died. The girl’s father is being treated today for a serious gunshot wound to the head, but is said to be stable. The mother was also shot and is being treated at the hospital.
According to the prosecutor in the case, the man is suspected of firing three to four shots into the family’s garden from his own plot, writes CNN.
The investigation also suspects the 71-year-old wife of withholding information from investigators.
