Workshop on Future Urban Development of Eslöv – Municipality of Eslöv

Berga Garden City is a new residential area in eastern Eslo. In the initial phase, the municipality wants to get ideas and feedback from external actors.

The purpose of the workshop is to build commitment. Together with external actors, a dialogue is held on which values ​​are attractive and sustainable for future urban development.

– The Eslöv we are planning will be a place where many generations will work and live. We have a responsibility to create a sustainable living environment. We need to say what we are planning and ask what others have to contribute, says Michael Walberg, head of planning and development at the Municipality of Eslov.

One of the participants – Frank Sonander, who is a business developer at OBOS – believes that we are smarter together.

– We have different approaches and we need everyone’s knowledge if we want to succeed in developing the district of the future, says Frank Sonander.

Strong interest in cooperation

During the workshop, it was discussed how the future Berga trädgårdstad district can be designed. What values ​​are important and how do future residents of Eslové want to move there?

The participants discussed and agreed on three plans for Perga Garden City, developed in parallel by Fojab, White and Sitwast Architecture and Landscape.

– Of great value is that you get to hear all the actors’ perspectives. When you create a new district, everything is put on the table, you see the opportunities and what you can contribute, but also the challenges that exist. These conversations are invaluable, says Madeleine Nobis, architect and sustainability strategist at LilJ Wall Architects, who meet to talk about both qualities and overall issues.

Construction will begin in 2028

In October, the municipality will hold more workshops with politicians, representatives of municipal institutions and civil servants.

– After that, we will evaluate and compile the material to present to the politicians. A decision will be made early next year on what future investment will look like. The start of construction for Berga Garden City could be a few years away, probably in 2028, Patrick Larsen says.

What is a garden city?

A garden city is an urban planning model developed in Great Britain in the early 20th century. The idea of ​​a garden city is to connect urban life and countryside through housing, work and recreation in a planned and welcoming area.

Garden cities were often built in green areas outside city centers and consisted of small to medium-sized houses surrounded by gardens and parks.
