With the biggest hockey party of the year just hours away, it’s time to catch our eye on what’s to come. Here’s everything we know about Hockey WC 2024 so far.
When is Hockey WC 2024 being played?
As usual, the tournament will be held in May, this time between May 10-26. It premiered on Friday and the finale on Sunday two weeks later.
Where will WC 2024 be played?
The Czech Republic will have the great honor of hosting the hockey elite next spring.
It will be far from the first time the country has hosted the tournament, the last time was in 2015. Then it was Prague and Ostrava that hosted the matches, so it will happen again this time. This is because the arenas in these cities are the arenas that measure up to the country’s IIHF requirements.
The O2 Arena in Prague holds 17,000 spectators, while the Ostrava Arena in Ostrava holds only 10,000 spectators.
Participating Teams in Hockey WC 2024:
Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Norway, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States have qualified for this year’s tournament and have managed to stay in the top division until next season. This also applies to the host country, which would have been allowed to participate if it had been worse.
New additions to the ranks will be Great Britain and Poland, both of whom established themselves at the top of the B-WC earlier in May. They take the places held by Slovenia and Hungary this year.
Which teams will meet in WC 2024?
In connection with the WC 2023 rounding off, the squads for the 2024 edition are provided. This is because end-of-year rankings influence teams’ ranking in the World Rankings, which determines how the groups will be placed.
When does Sweden play its matches?
The schedule for the tournament has not yet been announced and will probably take place later in the summer.
When will the tickets for the match be released?
Petr Bříza, head of the organization surrounding the championship, confirmed in an interview that ticket sales are scheduled to begin in the fall of 2023.
