Great Sankey High School's Physical Education Department has been ranked 18th in the annual list published by School Sport magazine – competing with more than 35,000 schools in 20 different sports.
The school ranked fifth in the list of best public schools.
This significant recognition follows a fantastic year of sporting triumphs, including highlights including a fantastic third national rugby title and a North West Double for Year 11 students.
Year 10 pupils have also achieved success in North West rugby, while Year 7 pupils have achieved English schools football glory.
Head of Physical Education Stuart Gary spoke of the exceptional dedication and excellence shown by the students.
He said: “As a department, we are extremely pleased to have received such a high rating. This outstanding achievement is a testament to the absolute brilliance and unwavering commitment of our students to school sports.”
The Head of Department immediately expressed his deep gratitude to the parents, local sports clubs and school staff for their invaluable support.
He added: “We owe a huge debt of thanks to the parents and local sports clubs for their unwavering support for our students.”
