The streaming premiere of the extravagant Viaplay series “The Swarm”. But the lead actor had no idea that his role would be so big.
Swedish Alexander Karim stars in a new international Viaplay venture. Tomorrow, Sunday is the premiere of “The Swarm,” which is described as an environmental thriller where Karim meets scientist Dr. Sigur Johansson. Actors from the Nordic countries, Germany, France and Great Britain are on board.
– “The Swarm” is about how a team of marine biologists sets out to save the world after new phenomena begin to appear in the world’s oceans. It starts with attacks by peaceful creatures in the oceans, Alexander Karim tells MovieZine.
Does this sound like a disaster movie?
– I’d like to say it’s like an existential disaster film. It’s not a big explosion and then The Rock swings on a vine and saves the world. Conversely, a disaster movie with a perfectly viable scenario could take time to develop there. But you have to be careful, I don’t want to spoil anything!, laughs Karim.

In an interview with MovieZine’s Jonah Vanhadalo, Alexander Karim recalled his first test shoot for the role. Then he had He doesn’t seem ready for the lead role:
– I was only told that I would play a scientist. “Well, it’s a small role, I suppose.” But I shot and sent my test shots.
– That evening I got a call from the director of Zoom. He said: “We loved the test shoot, the cool scenes. But one thing – you’re playing him as a little bit of a scientist, comedy and all. It’s the main character, so you can tone it down a bit and give him more sin and mystery.” Wow, the main character? Nobody told me that!

“The Swarm” is based on the science fiction novel by German Frank Schatzing. Produced by Frank Doelker He previously worked in the blockbuster film “Game of Thrones”. Coincidentally, a series experimented with by Alexander Karim was filmed without success. Now the two are planning another project together.
– We continue to work together on another project. So our working relationship is great. He is absolutely wonderful to work with. He takes time with his actors and is intimately involved in the process. I wish I could say more because this is going to be an amazing project! But I will play the main character again and it will be an absolutely fantastic one.
“The Swarm” has eight episodes and will be released on May 28 on Viaplay.
