London is the first stop on Biden’s European tour. Today he will meet British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and King Charles.
On Sunday evening, Air Force One landed at London Stansted Airport. There, Joe Biden was met by US Ambassador to the UK Jane Hartley and US Ambassador to the UK Karen Pearce. From Stansted, Biden flew to Hartley’s home, Winfield House, where he spent the night.
On Monday, Biden will first meet British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. This was their fifth meeting in recent months. Security guarantees and military support for Ukraine are expected to be high on their meeting agenda ahead of the NATO summit in Vilnius.
Later in the day, Biden will meet King Charles at Windsor Castle, west of London. They are expected to discuss climate issues. The environment and climate are central issues for King Charles, and while he, as monarch, should avoid taking a political stance on those issues.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Biden will attend the NATO summit in Vilnius.
Biden ends his tour on Thursday in Helsinki, where he will meet with President Sauli Niinisto and other Nordic leaders.
