UK University Hospitals Connect to Homerton Healthcare's Public Cloud Service from Sectra – Enhancing Collaboration for Better Care

Linköping – 22 October 2024 – Institute of Medical Technology and Cyber Security Divisions (STO: SECT B) cloud service, Sectra One Cloud, will be used by Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) in the UK as it integrates with Homerton Healthcare's existing cloud medical imaging solution. By using a single platform, their already established collaboration will be enhanced, which is expected to lead to better workflows and higher productivity at lower costs. In addition, Sectra takes responsibility for the technology and operation of the system, reducing the burden and costs on the IT department.

BHRUT has been using Sectra's radiation solution since 2015. Their operations run from King George's Hospital in Ilford and Queen's Hospital in Romford, providing care to people in East London and Barking, Dagenham, Haring and Redbridge in Essex. BHRUT and Homerton continue to collaborate as they are part of the same hospital region as Homerton Healthcare, which implemented Sectra's cloud service in 2023.

– We work a lot with Homerton to ensure patients in our region get care quickly, so we see great benefits in further facilitating that collaboration. By having a shared Sectra solution, our radiologists have instant access to each other's images and patient data, making it easier to collaborate on patient cases, says David Newey, BHRUT's Interim Chief Digital Transformation Officer.

As Sectra assumes overall responsibility for the cloud service at BHRUT, Sectra will continuously monitor, improve and improve the solution and provide 24/7 support to ensure a smooth experience over time. This creates a comprehensive system at BHRUT, ready to meet any growth both in terms of volume and expansion to other specialties.

– With Sectra responsible for the operation and maintenance of the system, the service we provide to patients will be much stronger, while our maintenance work will be reduced, Newey says.

The contract for Sectra One Cloud was signed in the second quarter of Sectra's 2024/2025 financial year and BHRUT will initially use the radiology and mammography modules.

– More hospitals are switching to cloud-based solutions to increase security and reduce the burden on IT departments. The change fills a widespread shortage of IT staff needed to manage hospital IT systems. We are therefore proud to offer BHRUT a solution that eases their burden and we look forward to continuing to support them and enhance their partnership with Homerton for better patient care in the region,” said Jane Rendall, CEO of Sectra UK.

Sectra's comprehensive solution for medical image management provides healthcare providers with an integrated strategy for all medical image management needs and improves patient care while contributing to reduced operating costs. The scalable solution is based on a multimedia archive (VNA) that supports modular and all image management. This allows healthcare providers to expand the solution, specialty by specialty and hospital by hospital.
