The match may not have been as intense as usual, but the Swedish men at least scored goals at a blistering pace in the first half. 13 seconds passed before Rasmus Asplund, one of the NHL’s regular Buffalo Sabers, gave Tre Kronor the lead.
Joachim Nordstrom, Calgary Flames, then went down 2-0 after barely eight minutes, and just over two minutes later, Rogley’s Anton Bengson made it 3-0. Rasmus Dahlen, who also plays for the Buffalo Sabers, then took the opportunity to score his first goal in the World Cup (4-0) and seconds before halftime, Asplund was in front again and scored.
5-0.
‘It’s pointless’
Then Tre Kronor slipped through the second period, without expanding but also without compromising anything.
Tre Kronor then extended the lead to 6-0 last period through Anton Bengtsson, but he didn’t put in any extra pressure but played it safe – and frugal.
The match was decided after 13 seconds. It is not possible to change the way the match looked, Sweden is playing out of it. The second period was absolutely useless. But I don’t appreciate it either, there is no intrinsic value to winning 10-0, says SVT expert, Jonas Anderson.
Asplund: ‘We got them’
It was Tre Kronor’s third victory in a row.
– We counted three points today and got them, says Asplund.
A bigger test awaits tomorrow. Then she meets favorite Finland, who also comes with three straight wins in the backpack.
