Unreal Engine 5 has dominated the media space lately with both game demos and videos showing what the game engine can do. In connection with the Game Developers Conference, rival company Unity released a video showing that the company’s game engine is still in the game. In the video, nicknamed the enemy, we see an image of a woman playing chess.
The video demonstrates Unity’s ability to render near-realistic models in real time, with hair and skin that look and move naturally. Unity writes that the game engine has received improvements in High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP), a new adaptive lighting system and updated character tools.
Enemies use the full feature set of Unity’s High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP), Screen Space Global Illumination (SSGI), new adaptive probe sizes, ray tracing, NVIDIA’s deep learning supersampling (DLSS), and every other feature, big or small. relevant to our objectives.
Improvements to the game engine were made, among other things, in connection with Peter Jackson’s Unity purchase VFX-studio Weta Workshopthat occurred before the end of the year. The system behind the character’s hair will also be compatible with Weta Workshop’s barbershop software, which was used to create the hair in later Planet of the Apes films.
Visitors to GDC 2022 will have the opportunity to take a closer look at the unit in the coming days. Unity’s new hair system and tools are planned to be implemented in no more than two months.
