Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Russian oil billionaire Roman Abramovich has tried to sell Chelsea, the Premier League club he took over in 2003.
However, the oligarch suffered severe penalties from Britain, due to his links with Vladimir Putin, and therefore all assets – including Chelsea – were frozen.
However, this has not stopped stakeholders from contacting them to try to buy the London team and there are now reports of a giant bid being made.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Saudi Media Group has made an offer worth 2.7 billion pounds, which is equivalent to about 33.7 billion Swedish crowns at today’s exchange rate. Jacobs wrote that the man behind the show, Mohammed Al-Khuraiji, would be a Chelsea fan and had his own consortium without any direct links to the Saudi state.
I can confirm that the Saudi media group made a £2.7 billion ($3.5 billion) bid for Chelsea. Mohamed Al-Khureiji is a Chelsea fan and leads a private alliance. There are no direct government links.

When Britain first froze Abramovich’s assets it meant the club could never be sold, but the British government opened its doors on Saturday to allow the sale of Chelsea.
In addition, the government has relaxed restrictions on the club. Initially, they were only allowed to use the equivalent of SEK 6.3 million during match days, but now they can use the equivalent of SEK 11.4.
