What role do students play in the resistance in Iran?

What happened at Sharif University this weekend?

– News from this university started pouring in on Sunday. It’s tough with Iran, as the internet is down in large parts of the country, and there have been reports that various messaging services and Instagram are also inaccessible. So things flow when people can access short VPN gaps. Then there were films showing protests at this university. The number of students numbered about 200, according to reports, chanting the slogans “Woman, Life, Freedom” and “Students would rather die than humiliate” in the same kind of protests we have seen in Iran in recent weeks. But then unpleasant footage of security forces attacking this university began to appear. There was shooting, students being chased, and calls started coming in from Iranian exiles in different parts of the world, even here in Sweden, that “you have to do something, we have to act now, Sharif University is under attack,” Emma says. Boffin in studio DN.

What kind of university is this?

– It is a technical university, a leading university. I’ve seen comparisons with Yale University in the US, for example, which are usually mentioned in such contexts. It is a university in which only the five per cent are able to enter, which is known to have produced many outstanding scholars and intellectuals. It is also a technical university.

In the episode, you’ll also hear about the role students play in protests in Iran, and why protesters are chanting that the notorious Evin Prison has become a university.
