Strong blue-yellow start in Team EC – “Great team effort perfect!”

It was a very successful start for Sweden at Team EC in Poland. Many Swedes performed better than the mentioned preliminary calculation and Blue Gold celebrates the mid-summer as the tenth team out of a total of sixteen teams. “A great team effort is perfect,” says national team captain Gajja Bergqvist.

On Midsummer Eve, the matches in the top division of Team EC started in Chorzów and the Swedish team put in several strong performances.

– It was a great team effort. Everyone goes out and shows that we’re here to act, not to “save ourselves” in the upper division. We are performing better than expected. There are still two days left, so we won’t withdraw anything early, but I think it’s very good, says national team captain Gajsa Bergqvist, who gives examples of active players who have shown a little extra on their front feet:

Lots of gold nuggets

– Of course I have to highlight Creed (Ahlberg) who makes amazing club throws when he wears the national team uniform. Now she does it again, setting her best of the year by two meters and scoring seven plus points against the count.

– Then it’s nice to see our middle distance players in great form, which we already know. Andreas Kramer had a good run after a confusing start and Emil Blomberg made a brilliant barrier race. His second place finish was great to watch.

Also under the results lists, important plus points are taken. Three great examples are Lisa Lilja, who bested her old self in the 400m with 53.00 in the 71st; National team debutant Vera Sjöberg clocked 15:53.81 in the 5000m and 19-year-old pole vaulter William Asker entered, clocking both 4.90 and 5.10 in his first attempt.

– Many are performing well today and now the team has had a very good start to this championship, says Gajsa.

Sweden Table Tie – Shades of Finland

After 12 of the 37 branches, Italy lead with 141 points, followed by Great Britain with 131.5 and the home team with 127 points.

Sweden is in tenth place with 91 points and ahead of Finland who collected 94 sticks. According to the preliminary statistical calculation, Sweden will finish in the thirteenth and last place, which could be in the first division.

– But domestically we aim higher than that. Bergqvist says the Swedish national athletics team often performs better than preliminary calculations show.
