On Wednesday, July 5, it was time to organize the Folksom Grand Prix in Karlstad, but already on Tuesday, July 4, the women’s pole vault was decided on a small pole fair in the middle of the city.
Folksom GB Karlstad began secretly with a women’s staff gala at restaurants in Karlstad’s inner harbor. From the Swedish side, Mikaela Meijer, Hannah Johnson, Kajsa Roth and Sarah Winberg were on site.
Karlstad offered some rough weather on Tuesday evening, not ideal for pole vaulting, but the active did what they could to stay warm under covers and blankets between jumps.
Sweden’s Mikaela Meijer jumps the highest. She managed 4.16 runs in her first attempt and stood above 4.26. She had some problems with 4.36 which she managed only in her third attempt. The height she next attempted, 4.46, was high for this evening and she stayed at 4.36, good for third place.
– It’s in G, and it feels better and better with every match. What’s missing now is continuity and a sense of hard poles, Michaela Meijer said.
Hannah Johnson was sixth in 4.05, Sarah Winberg was eighth in 3.90 and Kajsa Roth was ninth in 3.90. Great Britain’s Holly Bradshaw won the pole vault.
