Southampton coach Ralph Hasenhotel’s victory overtook Liverpool on Monday by more than three points, crying with joy after the final whistle. “I started to believe in winning only in the 92nd minute,” said the emotional Austrian.
The only goal of the match came in the second minute. A sly free kick by James Ward Prause found Danny Ings, who threw the ball over helpless Alison past Liverpool.
A big win for Southampton, who is ranked sixth in the table. For coach Ralph Hsienhotel, the victory was truly emotional.
– I did not score against Jürgen (Klopp, coach of Liverpool). “I think I only started to believe in it in the 92nd minute,” the Austrian said on Sky Sports.
– You never know, they are too strong to move forward and something can always happen.
At the start of the second half, Liverpool called the visitors to a penalty after Jorginho Wijnaldum’s shot hit a corner kick from Jack Stephen’s hand. No reaction from the referee and Jürgen Klopp after the match admitted that his team should play better.
With the positions we got and with the ball in control, we should have let Fraser Forester (Southampton goalkeeper) do a lot more than that. He should have sweated a little more, but we were the ones who sat in that seat.
Liverpool remain top of the table despite playing three games without a win. The team got the same result as Manchester United, who played one game less.
