Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic declares victory in the elections

Many thanks to the citizens of Serbia. Exclaimed late Sunday night, I’m so proud and infinitely happy.

But during election night, no official vote numbers were announced. The election results will not be announced until later on Monday, which is heavily criticized by the opposition, which considers the decision to wait with the numbers “scandalous” and gives Vucic explanatory precedence.

The opposition also claims Those widespread irregularities occurred during Election Day, which the ruling populists deny.

Opinion polls predicted that Vucic would get 60 percent of the vote in the presidential election. The 52-year-old SNS, which has been in power since 2012, is also expected to become the largest party with just over 40 percent of the vote in parliamentary elections, according to opinion polls.

Although Vucic and his party seem to hold power at the national level, the opposition has the opportunity to secure some victories at the local level. The capital, Belgrade, for example, could go to the opposition, which could mean a heavy blow to the Vucic government.

Vucic since the Russian invasion Ukraine has balanced expressing its support for peace while avoiding being drawn into direct sanctions against Russia and Putin – a country and leader it has been close to for a long time.
