Saab opens new radar manufacturing facility in Great Britain

Saab has opened a new radar manufacturing facility in the UK as part of its growth strategy. The facility is located in Fareham and will employ 100-150 employees in the long term.

Operations at the new facility will focus on the production and integration of SAP’s new architecture of the Giraffe 1X radar system, known as the Deployment Set. This means Saab is ramping up production capacity for the radar. Production of the first units is already underway.

Saab’s sensor operations in the UK will also serve as a knowledge center where new capabilities can be developed in the area of radar. In the longer term, the operation will be expanded to cover the maintenance and servicing of the British Armed Forces’ existing radar systems, for example the Giraffe 1X, the anti-aircraft radar Giraffe AMB and the artillery localization system Arthur, all manufactured by Saab.

– The opening of our new manufacturing facility in Fareham is the latest step in Saab’s growth in the UK. “We are not only creating jobs but also contributing to new domestic capacity for the UK defense sector,” says Dean Rosenfield, head of Saab UK.

Saab has eight major facilities in the UK, focusing on software development, underwater robotics, training and sensors.
