Since it was announced with its December premiere, GTA VI has had a release window of “sometime in 2025.” It was later rumored that it might be released in April next year at the earliest, but it now appears that perhaps the world's most anticipated game of all time could be delayed until 2026 at the worst.
An anonymous source said that the previously reported shift to 100% office work at Rockstar, from offering some remote work, was a move by stressed-out managers to quicken the pace and meet (rather tight?) deadlines. Kotaku.
Anonymous source:
[development] In GTA 6 he began to “fall behind”. [this] Leadership at Rockstar is nervous and concerned about the game missing the 2025 window and sliding into 2026, which is another big reason the company is pushing to return to the office in April.
[Rockstar] It's still “aiming” for GTA 6 to arrive in spring 2025. While the goal is for an early 2025 release, [they] I'm not sure if this will happen or not, and a fall 2025 launch seems more plausible and feasible. Meanwhile, postponing the game until 2026 is on the table as a sort of “backup plan” or “emergency” option if necessary.
Summer 2025 to “sometime 2026” seems to be the window we should be looking at now, if Rockstar chooses to use its “backup plan,” that is. But so far nothing has been confirmed.
