What does the royal family themselves think of this?

– They think it’s good. They think it creates clear guidelines and a framework around this.

In this year’s budget bill, the Swedish head of state will receive just over SEK 149 million. About half go to the State Palace, among other things, to take care of the eleven royal castles. How big is that? Different members of the royal family may not be reported, nor the purpose of the money being used.

But in the annual report published in April, it will mention – for the first time – three different amounts of the framework: one for the royal couple, one for Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel and one for Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia.

The largest sum goes to King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia. Princess Madeleine and her husband Christopher O’Neill live abroad and will not have a fixed budget.

In the annual report There will also be examples of the kinds of expenses the royal family receives in compensation, says Jan Lindemann, the marshal’s office superintendent.
