Watchmaker Rolex is demanding that Oyster & Pop, a British family business run by two sisters, change the name of its company. The reason for Rolex’s demands is that Oyster & Pop sells wall clocks for the equivalent of around 250 kronor, while Rolex has a watch model called the Oyster Perpetual that costs thousands of kronor.
Rolex believes there is a risk that consumers may confuse the two companies, and is therefore requiring Oyster & Pop to change its name, logo and domain on the Internet. The two sisters who run Oyster & Pop consider Rolex’s demands “nonsense” because the company takes its name from the “Oyster Bend” street where the sisters grew up.
The BBC did a report on the legal dispute between Rolex and the Oyster-Bend, but Rolex did not want to comment on it. Oyster & Pop started one Petition on Change.org It is hoped to draw attention to the dispute and possibly make Rolex withdraw its claim.
