Power saving mode or sleep mode – you can choose the right mode

You know how to turn off the computer. All programs close and everything turns off. However, with the right setup, your programs can restart after a fresh start.

But if you leave the computer unused for a period of time, it usually switches to what is called Energy saving mode. All open programs are saved in memory and the computer almost shuts down, except that memory and some other important components remain running. Some diodes usually blink, and the computer draws power, but very little. It’s quick to start and everything goes back to where you were.

Not to be confused with power saving mode sleep mode. This works similarly, but instead everything is saved to the hard drive and the computer shuts down completely – it consumes no power. Starting from this mode is a little slower, but even here you’ll be back without having to start your programs again. Hibernation is not enabled by default.

There is also a group called Hybrid Energy Saving Mode. It works like power saving mode, but everything is saved in both memory and hard drive. Booting from memory is just as fast, but the idea is that after a power failure, it should also be possible to boot from disk without losing data. This mode is enabled by default on desktop computers, but not on laptops. Instead, it automatically goes into emergency sleep mode when the battery is nearly empty.
