On Sunday, a German rescue boat was able to allow sick, minors and young children, 144 migrants, to go ashore in Sicily, according to German aid organization SOS Humanity. But thirty-five immigrants, all men, were turned away. They remain on the boat and their fate is uncertain.

Italy’s new far-right government has vowed to crack down on migrant boats from North Africa to Europe.
Nearly two weeks ago, up to 300 migrants were aboard two ships belonging to the German aid organization SOS Humanity, off the coast of Sicily.
After pressure from France and Germany, Italy finally decided to allow some migrants to land.
It is in violation of international law, said opposition Italian MP Abubakar Somahoro, angry at a “group of drowned migrants”. He has been highly critical of Italian President Meloni for his treatment of immigrants as objects.
What happens to the 35 immigrants is not clear.
According to Italian Interior Minister Matteo Bentidosi, unqualified migrants should be removed from Italian territorial waters.
