One million users in five months. This is the result after the Bankid app launched the function of obtaining digital ID cards. Bankid is owned by major Swedish banks through their joint venture Finansiell ID-Teknik and is typically used for digital signing and verifying identities. But a few months ago, it became possible to use the app as a digital ID card for viewing.
“We will see more digital ID documents in the future, and the fact that 1 million users have already activated their BankID digital ID card within 5 months shows that more and more people want to leave their wallets at home. The digital ID card is based on the same secure foundation as ID and signing with BankID, but now adapted to fit the physical environment run out DThe company’s electronic identification expert, in a press statement.
However, not all companies accept digital IDs yet. But with players like Apoteksgruppen, Kronan, DHL, SJ, Postnord and OKQ8, the cards should work today.
To activate the digital ID card, a physical identification document from the police is also required.
“A digital ID is more secure than a physical ID. With built-in security, it is harder to counterfeit and therefore harder for criminals to use to misuse someone else’s identity. I would like to see more businesses accepting digital ID cards and more people activating and using them.” January OlsonCrime Commissioner at the National IT Crime Centre.
