Saturday highlights with Thomas Peterson
Women’s soccer: Sweden and Australia
A knockout win at the premiere against the world number one USA – so is this the straight path for Sweden to win? No, unfortunately it is not that simple. Australia, coached by skilled Swede Toni Gustafsson, is anything but an easy opponent. She ranked ninth in the world (5th Sweden) – and with a red-hot star in Sam Kerr.
Men’s handball, Sweden – Bahrain
Silver medalist at the last World Cup – and now Sweden begins its search for an Olympic medal in Tokyo. And if you look at the opponent, Sweden should get a fairly easy start to the tournament. Bahrain has never played an Olympics before and this should be a victory for Sweden. At least following Thursday’s news that Jim Gottfriedson had previously been injured, he left the green light for the Games.
Women’s 100-meter butterfly swim Try
No, no medals will be awarded this evening in Tokyo. But it is less important. For Sweden, this is still a very exciting moment. Because when Sarah Sjostrom woke up on Thursday, I finally decided: I’m going to line up for 100 butterflies. And yes, it’s a titillation of course – at this distance Sjöström won the gold medal at Rio 2014.
