The Hero Cup is a group competition to be held in Abu Dhabi from January 13-15 next year. Great Britain/Ireland and the rest of Europe meet as a form of training for the Ryder Cup in September. There are ten players in the team. As with the Ryder Cup, there will be four-man, best-ball and singles play.
This was announced by Europe’s Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald a few weeks ago. Eighteen of the twenty players are now ready for the tournament. One of them is Alexander Noran.
– Having worked closely with Tommy and Fran to build both teams, I am delighted with the mix of players. Show yourself in Abu Dhabi in January, says Luke Donald on the Ryder Cup website.
When Europe won the Ryder Cup in Paris 2018, the successful duo Mollywood – Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood – was born.
Both of them are now the captains of their respective teams in the Hero Trophy.
Eligibility for the Ryder Cup runs until September 3, 2023. Six players can enter the team. Donald then drew his wild cards.
The team selection for the Hero Cup gives a small indication of which players they have their sights on.
– Luke Donald says we thought it was important to combine experience with youth and found a good balance with a mix of major winners and Ryder Cup players with guys hoping for a place in Rome next year.
