The new Nokia G22.

The new Nokia G22 looks like any other mobile phone. But if it breaks down, you can fix the problem yourself with the help of a repair kit.

A new Nokia phone was presented ahead of the big Mobile Word Congress MWC in Barcelona. Finnish company HMD Global has merged with the company Ifixit To allow users to fix broken cell phones themselves.

By itself, the new Nokia G22 probably isn’t anything special. It has a recycled plastic shell, Unisoc T606 CPU and 128GB of memory. The mobile has a 6.5-inch HD screen with a refresh rate of 90 Hz, three rear cameras and a front camera.

However, the mobile phone is the first model released by Nokia that encourages home cooking. Broken screen, bad charging socket, or old battery are things that users should be able to solve on their own with a repair kit.

More manuals and kits will be available when Nokia releases new models adapted for self-repair. Repair kits and parts purchased separately through iFixit. Nokia also writes on its website that if the repair is done using tools and instructions from iFixit, This does not affect the warranty But it is seen as an approved fix.

In addition to the G22 model, Nokia also launches the C22 and C32, low-cost mobile phones under SEK 2,000.

Manufacturing will be moved to Europe

In addition to the new mobile phone models, HMD Global has stated that it wants to move production of 5g devices to Europe, but it is not clear to which country. Currently, there is no major production of smartphones in Europe, but major mobile companies manufacture their devices in Asia.

In an effort to encourage companies to move production to Europe, the EU has introduced laws and subsidies in favor of key technology sectors. In which country a potential plant could be built was not specified.

– Although we cannot discuss specific European subsidies, we are collaborating with many parties in both the public and private sectors in Europe to advocate for European manufacturing and research and development, HMD Marketing Director Lars Silberbauer tells Reuters.
