Yesterday, Epic Games held one Live event which covered the future of the company’s Unreal Engine graphics engine. In connection with this, the latest version of the engine, Unreal Engine 5, was released sharply after a long period of beta testing. Unreal Engine 5 previously attracted famous game studios such as CD Projekt Red, whose next game in the Witcher series will use the graphics engine. Now the studio Tomb Raider Crystal Dynamics has also joined that crowd.
During the event, Crystal Dynamics revealed that it is in the process of developing a new title in the popular Tomb Raider series. But this time around, the game maker has ditched the foundation of its self-developed graphics engine and jumped on the bandwagon with Unreal Engine 5 as the development platform. According to Crystal Dynamics, changing the graphics engine will take the game series to a new level in terms of cinematic storytelling and graphic flair.
The first Tomb Raider game was released in 1996 with British Core Design behind the cranes. The game series has gone through one Reboot In 2013 with the new trilogy Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the titles received generally good reviews from both gamers and the gaming press. However, it remains to be seen if the game’s new plot takes over after the new trilogy or if it is based on an entirely new story.
