New Reality for the Women’s National Team: ‘Finally, I’ve Just Been Waiting’

Tonight the European Championship kicks off with the opening match between England and Austria, in front of a packed Old Trafford stadium in Manchester. And that would mean a new crowd record for a women’s EC match. The Swedes will sit on the bench and watch the match together, which Chelsea goalkeeper Zekira Musovic is so looking forward to.

– We’ve been waiting a long time for this. We hope the premiere turns out to be great, as you say.

Sweden is one of the favorites in the tournament and gets a lot of media attention, but also a lot of public interest. This was noted during upload to the EC.

– I think interest has grown. This was seen not least in Bastad in the pre-camp. Before, you walked around in national team gear and people asked, “What sport are you?” And how old are you?” We just answered that we play football and we are the senior national team. But now everyone knows, most will follow the tournament, some on the site and some at home in front of the TV.

– So far it has only been fun, but you need to be prepared for the fact that there may be negative aspects, also in the form of dislike, for people who have this need.

At its premiere on Wednesday, it is expected to be full, over 70,000. The interest has consequently led to huge demand for tickets.

– Finally, I was just waiting for it to be like this. It has been one record match after another in recent years. Now here we are again. I’m glad those around the sport are starting to think that something exciting is happening.
