In May, Sweden recorded its first case of the unusual disease Monkeypox Where the body gets a lot of boring pimples. A disease called monkeypox in other countries got its name in 1958 when it was discovered in monkeys. In the 70’s, people got it for the first time. Now the WHO is choosing to change the name of monkeypox to chickenpox to avoid racism and stigma around the name. But not immediately, both names will still be used for a year but monkeypox will be phased out over time. It’s unclear if there are plans to change monkeypox to type A or something here in Sweden.
