The joint venture announced a year ago by the Volvo Group, Daimler Truck and Traton Group (MAN, Scania), has now begun operations under the name Milence. The company will now expand Europe’s first large-scale public freight network for buses and heavy trucks, regardless of vehicle type.

Initially, Milence will focus on establishing charging points in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Norway and Sweden. In the next five years, Milence also plans to build charging stations in Great Britain, Denmark and Poland; Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Portugal.

The three auto giants agreed on the joint venture last December and formed the joint venture in July 2022 (click here).

Milence will build and operate no less than 1,700 high-performance public charging points in Europe until 2027, thus supporting and accelerating the transition to zero-carbon heavy vehicles in Europe. With 500 million euros (about 550 million kroner) as seed funding, Milence will provide sustainable energy for all battery-powered heavy-duty trucks and coaches, regardless of brand.

Simultaneously with the expansion of the charging network, the new charging technology MCS (Megawatt Charging System) will make it possible to charge, for example, a long-distance bus in a quarter of an hour for a distance of 400 km (click here).
