Manchester City dominated and should have won the League Cup final against Tottenham at an early stage. But the team took many chances and it took until the 82nd minute before they found the right opportunity. Midfielder Aymeric Laporte nodded his head at the goal that gave the club the League Cup victory.
The first title of the season in British football was on the line when Manchester City and Tottenham struck the same in the League Cup final in front of 8,000 spectators at Wembley.
It was the final match in which Manchester City dominated with his style. The team created a lot of chances throughout the match.
Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez, Fernandinho and Ilkay Gundogan had great chances to score but Tottenham and especially goalkeeper Hugo Lloris resisted.
But with eight minutes to go, City finally took a profit. Kevin De Bruyne took a free kick inside the penalty area, where midfielder Aymeric Laporte appeared and nodded with the winning goal.
– It was a special victory for us, especially after this kind in the FA Cup. We needed this in terms of self-confidence, says Laporte according to Sky Sports.
Manchester City have dominated the League Cup in recent years. Sunday’s title was the fourth in a row and at the same time touched Liverpool’s record eight final wins.
With the address now set, City is looking for more. The team is very close to winning the Premier League and is in the Champions League semi-finals.
– We’ve played very well in the past two months and we have to keep that rhythm so we can win more titles, says Laporte.
But for Spurs, the title still lives up to it. The team has not won anything since winning the League Cup in the spring of 2008.
