The plan, according to the British government, will prevent migrants from making dangerous journeys across the English Channel to reach the UK, and will prevent organized crime gangs from organizing the journeys. But according to the court this scheme is illegal.
Rwanda’s government says after the court ruling, the country remains committed and wants the partnership to work.
There is an opportunity to appeal against the court’s decision.

The UK and Rwandan governments agreed a year ago that some migrants arriving in the UK in small boats or stowaways would be sent to Rwanda, where their asylum claims would be processed. Asylum seekers then stay in Rwanda.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s government has vowed to “stop the boats” from northern France, which bring migrants hoping to make a life in Britain.
By 2022, more than 45,000 had arrived in the UK. Many died during the journey.

Human rights organizations consider it immoral and inhumane to send people to a country they don’t want to live in. They also cited Rwanda’s poor reputation for human rights.
Britain has already paid 140 million pounds, about 1.9 billion Swedish kroner, but no one has yet been sent to Rwanda because of the deal.
A lower court ruled in December that the British plans were legal and did not breach other international treaties.
