Leading children’s hospitals in Great Britain empower radiologists with Sectra’s IT solution

Linköping – December 7, 2022 – Medical technology and cyber security company section (STO: SECT B) has signed an agreement with Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) in England. GOSH is one of the world’s leading children’s hospitals and with this agreement, their radiologists will now have access to better tools for reviewing medical images. The solution also makes it easy for them to access medical images from different modalities on the same workstation, which is crucial for effective diagnosis.

GOSH has selected Sectra’s end-to-end solution for medical imaging as a subscription service (Sectra One) and will use the radiology module. The agreement was signed in September 2022.

The solution will give employees the opportunity to review images in completely new ways. This will increase efficiency, open up new opportunities around AI (artificial intelligence), and make it possible for experts at GOSH to easily share their expertise, even outside their own company.

– The development of diagnostic tools in the new system will create continuous value in terms of our staff reviewing images, writing responses and following the course of patients’ disease. In everyday life, this can make a huge difference for our radiologists. With the help of modern technology, they can better handle large amounts of data. GOSH’s IT manager Anthony Harper says we will expand the use of advanced imaging, while improved opportunities to display images and information across multiple circuits will strengthen hospital collaboration.

He continues:
– The new system will make it easier to access images from other healthcare providers, increasing efficiency when our teams respond to referrals from other hospitals. As we continue to work to be at the forefront of diagnostic imaging in pediatric healthcare, this will enable us to explore the possibilities of getting support from AI in diagnosis.

The efficiency enabled by the new solution is expected to enable radiologists at GOSH to handle a large number of diagnostic cases. For example, they can review pictures and write answers in the same setting. With speech recognition as an integrated function in the solution, the need to manage and work across multiple systems is further reduced.

Reliance on manual processes to retrieve images taken by other healthcare providers will also be reduced. This facilitates links to cross-regional care collaborations, both within London and at national level, now being implemented in Great Britain, known as integrated care systems.

Integration between the image management system from Sectra and the recording system used by GOSH will, for example, improve how images are displayed in the operating theatre. The system supports modern and mobile workflows with the option to work remotely.

Radiologists have access to in-depth information when reviewing images. Anatomical correlation between different images can facilitate the examination of, for example, cancer and other diseases where multiple images are taken. Subtraction makes it easier for healthcare professionals to see changes between historical and current images, for example tumor growth, to follow the course of a disease. They can also view cardiology images in solution.

Jane Rendall, CEO of Sectra in the UK, says:
– Great Ormond Street Hospital has long been a global pioneer when it comes to many areas of paediatrics, including diagnostic imaging. I hope that the implementation of a new image management system will give them the tools to continue their innovation, and I look forward to a strong collaboration in sharing experiences and knowledge.
