The Senate Legal Affairs Committee on Monday approved Kitangi Brown Jackson’s nomination. A vote in the Senate is expected on Thursday or Friday. All indications point to the approval of President Joe Biden’s candidate for the Supreme Court.
Republicans Mitt Romney and Lisa Murkowski announced Monday that they support Kitangi Brown-Jackson. The judge already has the endorsement of a third Republican, Senator Susan Collins.

Collins, Romney and Each Murkowski belongs to a small group of Republican senators who from time to time take a step across the party line on various issues. But their message could still be seen as a small victory for President Joe Biden and Democrats, who want to avoid using Vice President Kamala Harris’ vote to advance the nomination by the smallest possible margin.
During Senate Judiciary Committee hearings in late March, Republicans did their best to portray Brown Jackson as a radical leftist candidate. But Romney and Murkowski praise her qualifications and experience.
Ketanji Brown-Jackson will replace Stephen Breyer, who will retire this summer. In doing so, she became the first black woman in the history of the Supreme Court.
