The legal process in Britain was the last against Spain’s former president and is being hailed as a victory by Juan Carlos. According to several sources, the current King of Spain, Felipe VI, is now planning to return to Spain after changing his address to the United Arab Emirates in August 2020.

Corinna Larson, the former lover of Juan Carlos, complained that he and his family had been threatened personally and with the help of Spanish intelligence. The aim will be to recoup the roughly €65m that Juan Carlos transferred to Larsson in 2012, shortly after their relationship ended, which she said was a declaration of love.

Corinna Larson said in her statement Spanish security forces broke into his residence in Monaco and threatened his life in London. Through his lawyers, he is seeking 126 million pounds (about 146 million euros) in damages. It is seen as a strategic move to end up in a compromise that would allow him to keep the alleged €65m gift from Juan Carlos.

After a new judge took over the case, the British court decided it had no jurisdiction, according to El Pais newspaper. It was found that the case should be enforced in Juan Carlos’ home country. Furthermore, the judge found that the allegations of unlawful threats (harassment) as set out in the British Criminal Code were not credible.

Corinna Larson has expressed her disappointment with the decision and has announced that she intends to appeal, although her chances of a settlement appear slim. For Juan Carlos, this is yet another legal victory as all investigations against him, mainly tax crimes and money laundering, have finally been closed.
